Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features, such as the upward trend of the film club and the downward trend of amateur dramatics. However, the report is fragmented and lacks a clear, analytical approach. The data selection is inconsistent; for instance, you list specific figures for 2000 and 2010 but fail to provide a comprehensive overview of the trends across the entire 20-year period. The description of the musical performance is inaccurate (it starts at 0 but the graph shows a clear rise), and the comparison between categories is underdeveloped. To improve, ensure you group data logically rather than listing figures chronologically, and focus on significant changes and end-point comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression within them is weak. The use of cohesive devices is repetitive and often mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'However' and 'Moreover' at the start of sentences. Some sentences feel disconnected, making the overall flow disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus, such as grouping activities by their performance trends (e.g., those that increased vs. those that decreased).

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is functional but limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic phrases like 'number of participants' and 'increased year by year'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations related to describing trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', 'a significant rise'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated verbs and nouns to describe data, such as 'witnessed a steady growth' or 'experienced a sharp decline'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in punctuation and sentence construction. For example, there are missing spaces after commas and periods (e.g., 'Overall,it', '2000 .'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'the ratio of number of participants'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic punctuation and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound.
