Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for each activity. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the film club's dominance and the sudden rise in table tennis participation. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesises the data effectively. While you mention the film club and amateur dramatics, the summary could be more cohesive by grouping activities with similar trends. Some data points are slightly inaccurate or vague, such as describing the martial arts trend as 'repetition was occurred,' which does not clearly describe the data. To improve, ensure you provide a more precise summary of the overall trends in the introductory paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'In detail,' 'However,' and 'Whereas' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. For example, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'the repetition was occurred,' which makes it difficult to follow the logic of the trend. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the trends, such as 'fluctuated,' 'surged,' and 'climbed.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'scored lowest participants,' 'sudden increased happen,' and 'minimally up and down was show.' These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your descriptions. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations for describing trends, such as 'experienced a surge' instead of 'slight surged,' and ensure that your verb forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('musical performances start in 2005'), subject-verb agreement ('the numbers of participants were fluctuated'), and awkward phrasing ('the repetition was occurred'). While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to distract from the content. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive and active voice when describing data trends.
