Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the graph, including the steady trend of the Film club, the significant growth of Table tennis, and the decline in amateur dramatics. You have also made relevant comparisons between the categories. However, the response could be improved by providing a more cohesive overview that synthesizes the data rather than listing each category sequentially. Additionally, ensure that the data points cited are accurate; for example, stating that amateur dramatics went from '20 to 30' is confusing as it implies an increase, whereas the graph shows a decline. Overall, you have addressed the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific activity or trend. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'On the contrary', 'On the other hand', and 'however' to signal transitions between ideas. However, the paragraphing is somewhat fragmented, with each sentence acting as its own paragraph. To improve, you should group related ideas into larger, more cohesive paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'recreational pursuits', 'skyrocketed', and 'accommodating'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'variated' (which is not standard; 'varied' or 'fluctuated' would be better) and 'no strength' (which is an unnatural collocation for describing participation numbers). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. Focusing on more natural collocations will help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'the Film club was taken up by the majority for the population' (awkward phrasing) and 'remaining with 30 to 40 people' (should be 'remaining at'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable. To reach a higher band, aim for more error-free complex sentences and ensure that prepositions and verb forms are used accurately. Your punctuation is generally correct, which helps with the overall readability of the report.
