Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers all categories of data, but the analysis is inconsistent. While you identify the main trends, the summary is inaccurate; for instance, you state that amateur dramatics showed a 'major increase,' when the data clearly shows a significant decline. Furthermore, the overview is confusing and contradicts the body paragraphs. To improve, ensure your overview highlights the most significant trends (e.g., the rise of table tennis versus the decline of dramatics) and verify that your summary statements align with the actual data points provided in the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. The use of cohesive devices like 'intially,' 'secondly,' and 'fourthly' is somewhat repetitive and formulaic. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that logically connects to the next section of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'show,' 'increase,' and 'reduce' throughout the text. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'interest in its participants' and 'near to vanished.' To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable,' or 'experienced a sharp decline.' Additionally, ensure you use correct terminology for data reporting, such as 'peaked at' instead of 'were at peak.'

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Table tennis were,' 'film club have,' 'dramatics... contain') and tense usage. Sentence structures are generally simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters and sentence fragments. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and practice combining simple sentences into more complex structures using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions.
