Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the film club's consistent popularity and the sharp rise in table tennis participation. The overview is clear and provides a concise summary of the trends. You have also made relevant comparisons, such as contrasting the decline in amateur dramatics with the growth in other areas. The data is accurately reported, and the inclusion of specific figures supports your observations well. To reach a higher band, ensure that the most significant trends are highlighted even more prominently in the overview.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs that group the data effectively. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used a good range of cohesive devices, such as 'In contrast', 'on the other hand', and 'finally', to link your points. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different activities. The flow of information is natural and easy to follow throughout the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the trends accurately. Phrases like 'experienced the biggest increase', 'significant decline', and 'increasing sharply' are well-chosen and appropriate for an academic report. The vocabulary is precise and contributes to the clarity of the description. While the range is adequate for the task, incorporating a few more sophisticated synonyms or collocations related to data trends could further enhance the lexical variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response demonstrates a good command of grammatical structures. You have used a mix of simple and complex sentences effectively, and the majority of your sentences are error-free. Punctuation is used correctly, and the tense usage is consistent with the historical data provided. There are no significant errors that impede communication. To aim for a higher band, you could experiment with more varied complex sentence structures, such as using participle clauses or more advanced subordinating conjunctions to link data points.
