Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the stability of the Film Club and the significant growth of Table Tennis. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesizes the data effectively. While you mention some trends in the body paragraphs, the 'Overall' section is somewhat repetitive and lacks a cohesive summary of the most significant changes. To improve, ensure your overview highlights the most striking differences or similarities across the entire period rather than just listing individual activity trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, phrases like 'In contrast' and 'However' are used frequently but sometimes do not logically connect the preceding and following ideas. Additionally, the transition between the body paragraphs and the summary is somewhat disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'after that' being used repeatedly to describe different timeframes. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used to show logical relationships between data points would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main trends, such as 'fluctuation', 'decline', and 'steady'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'Amature dramtics' (spelling), 'initiate with the low interest', and 'people take interest gradually'. Some terms are used incorrectly, such as 'huge interest' or 'little spike'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations (e.g., 'a significant increase' instead of 'a massive hike') and ensure accurate spelling of key terms like 'amateur' and 'dramatics'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Film club remain constant', 'Martial art having slightly decline') and missing articles or prepositions. The tense usage is also inconsistent, shifting between present and past in ways that do not always align with the timeline of the graph. To improve, focus on consistent verb tense usage for historical data and ensure that subjects and verbs agree in number. Proofreading for basic sentence construction will help reduce these errors.
