Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying trends for the various activities. However, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the overall trends. There are some inaccuracies in the data reporting; for instance, stating that the film club had 64 members in 2000 and ended with 66 in 2020 is not supported by the visual data provided. The response attempts to compare the activities, but the lack of a cohesive structure makes it difficult to follow the main trends. To improve, ensure that the data points are accurately transcribed and that the overview highlights the most significant changes across the entire period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response suffers from significant issues with paragraphing and formatting. The text is broken into fragmented lines, which disrupts the flow and makes it difficult to read. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'In contrast', the overall logical progression is hampered by the disjointed structure. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of proper paragraphing prevents the development of a coherent argument. To improve, you should organize your report into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific trends.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'Amateure' and 'performan', and some awkward phrasing like 'Near to end with passage of time'. While you successfully use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'fluctuation', 'steadily', and 'decline', the range is not sufficient to convey information with precision. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of verbs to describe trends (e.g., 'surged', 'plummeted', 'remained stable') and ensure that your spelling and word choices are accurate to avoid confusing the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'The line graph illustrate', 'Film club have', 'table tennis show'). The sentence structure is often simplistic or fragmented, and there are errors in preposition use and tense consistency. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar limits the clarity of the report. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentences are complete and correctly punctuated. Practicing the use of complex sentences would also help to improve your range.
