Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the graph, but the analysis is superficial and lacks a clear overview. While you identify some trends, the descriptions are often vague (e.g., 'snake shape in line') rather than using precise data points or comparative language. You fail to highlight the most significant trends, such as which activity was the most popular overall or the clear divergence in trends between 2000 and 2020. To improve, you must provide a clear summary of the main trends in the introduction and support your points with specific figures from the graph to demonstrate a more thorough understanding of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'After that' and 'Subsequently' to start sentences. The referencing is also unclear; for example, 'the number not stabled as same in others years' is difficult to follow. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, moving logically from one trend to the next rather than listing them in a disjointed manner.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'number of participants' and 'increased'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'not stabled as same' and 'rise frequently', which hinder the clarity of your report. You need to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a downward trend'. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns will allow you to convey information more accurately and professionally, which is essential for Task 1 responses.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the graphs shows', 'the number of participants were'), incorrect verb forms ('were rise', 'were growth'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that you are using the correct tense for describing past data. Proofreading for these fundamental errors will significantly improve your score.
