Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You successfully identified the overall trends and made relevant comparisons, such as noting when table tennis overtook martial arts. However, the report could be improved by ensuring data points are more precise; for instance, stating 'about 65' is acceptable, but the analysis of the 'musical performance' trend is slightly vague. The overview is clear, but ensure that all comparisons are fully supported by the data provided in the graph to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You used cohesive devices such as 'In 2000', 'Nevertheless', 'Furthermore', and 'By contrast' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'the number of participants of...'). Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow and help the response move into the higher band range.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'upward growth', and 'peaked'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'By contrary' (should be 'In contrast' or 'Conversely') and 'musical at no participant' (should be 'musical performance had no participants'). To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoid repeating the same phrases to describe trends throughout the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'film club has' (should be 'had' for past tense), 'marital arts' (should be 'martial arts'), and 'showed and upward rise' (should be 'an'). Additionally, some articles are missing or misused. To achieve a higher score, you need to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and ensure consistent tense usage when describing historical data.
