Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for the film club, table tennis, amateur dramatics, and musical performances. However, the report lacks a clear overview paragraph; the summary is embedded within the body, which is a structural weakness. While the key trends are identified, the data reporting is somewhat imprecise, such as using 'second most highest' instead of 'second highest'. The response would benefit from more specific data points to support the descriptions of the trends, as the current analysis relies heavily on general descriptors rather than precise figures from the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is coherent, but the paragraphing is poor. The entire text is presented as a single block, which makes it difficult to follow the logical progression of ideas. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Additionally', and 'Lastly', they are sometimes used mechanically. The lack of clear paragraph breaks between the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs significantly hinders the flow and organization of the report. Improving the structure by separating the introduction, overview, and specific details into distinct paragraphs is essential for a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks sophistication and precision. Phrases like 'came into being' and 'acquired less attention' are slightly unnatural in an academic context. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'participants ratio' and 'second most highest'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it does not demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for a higher band. Using more precise terminology related to trends and data, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', would improve the lexical quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the' film club), punctuation issues (missing spaces after periods), and awkward phrasing ('participants ratio for the table tennis climbed'). The sentence structure is often repetitive, and some sentences are slightly clunky. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall clarity of the writing. Focusing on sentence variety and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
