Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered all activities and made relevant comparisons, such as contrasting the decline of amateur dramatics with the growth of table tennis. However, the response lacks precision in reporting specific figures. For instance, you mention 'slight increase or decrease' without specifying the data points, and you refer to 'Amateur dynamic' (likely a typo for dramatics) without being precise about the 2005 peak. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are clearly linked to the years mentioned to support your observations more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'whereas', 'while', and 'after which' to connect ideas. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes slightly unclear, such as in the phrase 'A similar pattern was shown by the martial arts activity', which could be more explicitly linked to the previous sentence. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'stable behaviour', 'significant increase', and 'consistent'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'Amateur dynamic' instead of 'amateur dramatics' and 'the count of 65' which is slightly unnatural in this context. You also rely on some repetitive phrasing like 'number of participants'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms such as 'attendance figures', 'participation levels', or 'the number of individuals involved' to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'in the early 2000's' (the apostrophe is unnecessary) and 'the only activity which started in the year of 2005' (the 'of' is redundant). Additionally, there are minor punctuation errors and some awkward phrasing, such as 'showed slight increase in the participants'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on article usage and prepositional accuracy will help improve your overall control.
