Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response provides a summary of the main features, but it lacks precision in reporting data. The use of percentages to describe participation numbers is inaccurate, as the graph likely represents raw numbers rather than proportions. Furthermore, the description of trends is inconsistent; for example, stating that the film club had the highest proportion 'throughout the period from 2000 to 2005' ignores the rest of the data up to 2020. The overview is present but lacks a clear synthesis of the overall trends. To improve, ensure that the data points are interpreted correctly and that the overview captures the most significant changes across the entire timeframe.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the misuse of cohesive devices. Transitions such as 'While,' 'Whereas,' and 'However despite' are used incorrectly at the beginning of sentences, creating a fragmented flow. The referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between different activities. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are often mechanical and do not effectively connect the ideas. Improving the variety and accuracy of cohesive devices will significantly enhance the readability of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'melbourn', 'asutralia', 'experianced', 'steadly', 'Amature', and 'substanially', which detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1. The student relies on basic descriptive terms like 'highest figure' and 'lowest trend'. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to use more precise vocabulary for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure accurate spelling of key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect punctuation (e.g., 'All in all, The film club'), subject-verb agreement errors, and awkward phrasing such as 'in all over activities'. The misuse of prepositions and articles is also noticeable throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct sentence punctuation would be a beneficial next step.
