Student answer (Band 6.5)
The graph illustrates the different activities such as film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis and musical performance offered at a social centre in Melbourne Australia, from 2000 to 2020 and number of participants.
Overall, the data reveals substantial changes in the number of particpants through the years among all the activities, except the film club that kept a steady change and remained the only activity with the most consistent participants .
In 2000, the film club has 65 participants, followed by martial art with 35, amateur dramatics with 25 and table tennis with 15. However, musical performance didn't have any participants from 2000 - 2005, and by 2020, it had close to 20 individuals.
The film club reached 77 members in 2020 and only dropped to 60 members in 2010. Table tennis had one of the lowest members in 2000, but it an upward trend and by 2020, it became the activity with the second-highest members reaching 50. The amateur dramatics increased slightly in 2005 to 27 and dropped significantly to become the lowest activity with attendees. Moreover martial arts didn't have any significant increase except fluctuations in 2005 and 2015 which reduced the numbers of individuals to 31.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the growth of table tennis and the stability of the film club. However, the analysis is slightly uneven; for instance, the description of martial arts is a bit confusing, and the specific data points for 2005 and 2015 are mentioned without clearly explaining their significance in the overall trend. To improve, ensure that every comparison made is clearly supported by the data provided in the graph, and avoid listing figures without connecting them to the broader narrative of the activity's performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However', 'Overall', and 'Moreover', to link ideas. However, the progression within the third and fourth paragraphs is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the film club's data and the table tennis trend could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'it an upward trend', which lacks a verb. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next will help elevate your score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'substantial changes', 'consistent', and 'fluctuations'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'kept a steady change' (should be 'remained steady') and 'lowest members' (should be 'lowest number of members'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and ensure that your word choices are contextually accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'the film club has 65 participants' (should be 'had' to maintain past tense consistency) and 'it an upward trend' (missing a verb). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor issues with sentence construction. To improve, focus on maintaining consistent tense usage throughout the report and proofreading for missing verbs or articles, which will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy.
