Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons. You have successfully highlighted the key features, such as the initial popularity of the film club and the significant rise of table tennis. However, the report is slightly let down by some inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you mention a 'decrement' in martial arts after 5 years, which is not clearly supported by the graph, and there are some inconsistencies in the figures cited. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed and that the overview clearly synthesizes the most significant trends rather than just listing data points chronologically.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of the data. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In conclusion' and 'whereas', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between years feels abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data trends.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'participants', and 'popular'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect word forms, such as 'decrement' instead of 'decrease', 'increment' instead of 'increase', and 'nobody interested' instead of 'no one was interested'. These errors occasionally impede the precision of your report. To improve, focus on learning the correct collocations for describing trends and ensure you are using the correct parts of speech (nouns vs. verbs) when reporting data changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and article usage (e.g., 'table tennis players were accounted for 15', 'Musical performances were risen'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and missing prepositions. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing 'the' or 'a' before nouns and ensuring consistent use of past tense when describing historical data.
