Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the dominance of the film club and the contrasting trends of table tennis and amateur dramatics. However, the overview is slightly weak; stating that the film club had 'no impact' is inaccurate, as the graph shows participation levels. Additionally, some data points are described in a slightly informal or imprecise manner, such as 'every likes to participate'. To reach a higher band, ensure that your overview clearly synthesises the most significant trends rather than just listing observations, and maintain a more formal, objective tone throughout the report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific trends. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'But the number of participants' is slightly awkward, and the use of 'in which' or 'in the tear' (likely a typo for year) shows limited control over linking phrases. To improve, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'while' to better connect your sentences and ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe trends like 'fluctuation' and 'popularity'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'armature' instead of 'amateur', 'tear' instead of 'year', and 'the the'. These errors occasionally distract the reader. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise academic collocations, such as 'witnessed a significant increase' or 'experienced a downward trend', and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate simple spelling and repetition errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'many individuals decisions have changed', 'every likes to participate', and 'is containing'. These errors, along with issues in subject-verb agreement and article usage, occur throughout the text. While they do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of present continuous versus simple present tenses when describing data trends.
