Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all the main features of the graph, including the trends for each activity. You successfully identified the growth in table tennis and musical performances, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the stability of the film club and martial arts. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the data, as the summary provided is slightly inaccurate regarding the stability of the martial arts category. Additionally, some data points are imprecise (e.g., 'around 0 members' for 2005). To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant trends clearly and that data points are reported with greater precision.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast' and 'Since 2000', which assist in linking ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between categories feels abrupt. Improving the use of cohesive devices to create smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs would enhance the overall structure and logical progression of your report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'stable', and 'decline'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and spelling errors, such as 'firm club' instead of 'film club', 'amatuer' instead of 'amateur', and 'person' used where 'people' or 'participants' would be more appropriate. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends and ensure you proofread for spelling and collocation errors, as these occasionally distract from the clarity of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect article usage ('a decline seen in individuals'), subject-verb agreement ('members of table tennis rise'), and tense inconsistencies ('Musical performance adults took a start'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. To improve, focus on consistent verb tenses when describing past data and ensure correct subject-verb agreement and article usage in your sentences.
