The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The line graph illustrates the distribution of participants across five activities-film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis and musical performances-at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia from 2000 to 2020.
Overall, the number of participants for film club and martial arts remained relatively stable by the end, while amateur dramatics and musical performances showed an upward trend. Table tennis was the sole activity with a downward trend. Notable, film club attracted the most participants throughout the period.
Film club was by far the most appealing activity, with around 65 participants in 2000. This figure decreased slightly to roughly 60 in 2010 before rising again to nearly 66 by 2020. Meanwhile, martial arts fluctuated between 30 and 40 participants over the period before ending at approximately 37 by the end.
In contrast, table tennis accounted for around 16 participants in 2000, the lowest among all. This figure then rose significantly to just above 50 by 2020, becoming the second favored activity. Musical performances started in 2005, but climbed to nearly 16 participants. Conversely, amateur dramatics became the least popular activity by the last year, starting at approximately 17 and dropping to around 6 by 2020.
