Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You successfully identified the most popular activity (film club) and highlighted the significant growth in table tennis. However, the description of amateur dramatics is missing from the body paragraphs despite being mentioned in the overview, which is a minor omission. The data points are generally accurate, though the overview could be more analytical by grouping trends more effectively rather than just listing them. To reach a higher band, ensure that every trend mentioned in the overview is fully supported by data in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Overall', 'In 2000', and 'After that', to guide the reader. However, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to show contrast or sequence more naturally. Referencing is generally clear, but ensure that each paragraph focuses on a distinct group of data to improve the overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'participated', 'fluctuated', and 'gradually increased'. There are some minor errors, such as 'fiim club' (spelling) and 'clearly decrease' (should be 'clear decrease'). You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the range is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for 'increased' or 'decreased' and ensure that your word choices are grammatically precise (e.g., using adjectives instead of adverbs where appropriate).
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The line graph illustrate' (subject-verb agreement), 'between 2000 to 2020' (should be 'between 2000 and 2020'), and 'decreaasing' (spelling). Additionally, some sentences lack necessary prepositions, such as 'increased again 38' (should be 'increased again to 38'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and preposition usage.
