Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have successfully identified the main trends and provided data to support your points. However, the response contains significant factual inaccuracies regarding the data. For example, you state that table tennis reached 52 by '2000', which is chronologically impossible given the graph's timeline, and you misidentify the film club as the most popular throughout, despite table tennis overtaking it. While you cover all categories, the analysis lacks precision in comparing the trends effectively. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference your descriptions with the specific years and values shown on the axes to avoid misinterpreting the data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. Phrases like 'five years letter' (later) and 'although a decade latter' are used incorrectly to link ideas. Additionally, the overview paragraph is poorly constructed, with a fragmented sentence structure ('the most popular activity had Flim club it was highest number of participants'). While there is a logical attempt to group the activities, the flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, which hinders the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. You rely on basic verbs like 'started', 'remained', and 'increased'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'Flim' instead of 'Film' and 'letter' instead of 'later'. Some phrasing is unnatural, such as 'this figure was grew steadily' and 'was represented 28 to 29'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'experienced a sharp decline', and ensure that your spelling and word choice are more accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response shows a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb tense and subject-verb agreement, such as 'the figure was grew' and 'the number of participants... was started'. Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary spaces before commas and inconsistent capitalisation. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for tense consistency and subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
