Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, but there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state the film club was 'constant' throughout 20 years, yet the graph shows fluctuations. You also mention the period 2000 to 2008 in the introduction, while the graph covers 2000 to 2020. While you identify the main trends, the lack of precision in describing the data points and the incorrect time frame limit the score. To improve, ensure you carefully read the axis labels and double-check your data points against the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes repetitive (e.g., 'there were', 'the number of participants'). There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas between sentences. While the progression of information is generally logical, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of transition signals to show relationships between the data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on phrases like 'number of participants' and 'there were'. There are also some errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'musical perform ace' and 'thew number'. To reach a higher band, try to use more varied synonyms for 'increase' (e.g., 'climb', 'surge', 'rise') and 'decrease' (e.g., 'decline', 'drop', 'fall') to avoid repetition and demonstrate a more flexible range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The number of participants... were constant'), missing articles, and punctuation errors (e.g., missing spaces after periods). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and punctuation would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
