Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and providing relevant data points. You successfully highlight the highest and lowest participants in the overview. However, the reporting of data is occasionally imprecise, such as stating 'about 8 participants' for amateur dramatics, which is difficult to verify against the graph. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are described with greater precision and that comparisons between categories are more explicit. While the main features are identified, the analysis could be more cohesive by grouping trends more effectively rather than listing each activity in isolation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be improved to avoid repetitive phrasing. For example, the transition between the discussion of martial arts and amateur dramatics feels abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'soared', and 'dramatically declined'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the data inclined to' and 'significantly climbed to'. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more precise usage of verbs related to trends. To improve, focus on learning the specific collocations used to describe graph movements, such as 'experienced a significant increase' rather than 'significantly climbed'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with prepositions and verb tenses (e.g., 'reached at about', 'number of participants recorded about 5 to 20'). There are also minor punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the information, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions in trend descriptions will help improve your accuracy.
