Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making comparisons. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and relies on listing data points rather than synthesising information. For instance, the statement 'Film club and Martial arts are almost remain same' is a generalisation that could be more precise. Additionally, there is a factual error regarding the timeline, as the prompt mentions 2000 to 2020, but the text references 2025. The overview is present but lacks a clear focus on the most significant trends, such as the clear divergence between the growing and declining activities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. Phrases like 'But, number of Amateur dramatics decrease badly' and 'the case is similar as that of' feel repetitive and lack natural flow. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is occasionally disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between different activities. More varied linking words and better referencing would improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'decrease badly' and 'proceed higher'. The student relies on basic descriptors and struggles with collocations. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety in reporting verbs and trend-related vocabulary limits the score. To improve, the student should focus on using more sophisticated synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and ensure that word choices are contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('number of participants... are almost remain'), missing articles ('in Film club'), and incorrect tense usage. For example, 'Table tennis participants and Amateur dramatics participants are same' lacks a verb, and 'are increased' is an incorrect passive construction. While the meaning remains understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents a higher score.
