Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers all activities mentioned in the graph and provides a summary of the main features. However, the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating that the Film club 'did not decrease' is vague, and the description of the trends is frequently contradictory or mathematically incorrect based on the visual data. While the main features are identified, the lack of precision in reporting the figures and the failure to make meaningful comparisons between the activities limit the score. To improve, ensure that data points are clearly linked to specific years and that the trends described accurately reflect the graph's movements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. Phrases like 'Whereas' are frequently used at the start of sentences where they do not logically connect the preceding information, such as 'Whereas table tennis risen rapidly after 2010.' Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making the progression of ideas feel disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic verbs like 'got', 'rose', and 'decreased'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'it got rose slowly' and 'it had experienced a down falls'. These errors occasionally make the meaning difficult to follow. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a sharp decline', and ensure that these are used with correct grammatical structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with verb tense and form, such as 'table tennis risen' (should be 'rose' or 'has risen'), 'people stated participating' (should be 'started'), and 'it got rose' (should be 'it rose'). Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'Martial arts was fluctuated ups and downs'. The lack of control over basic subject-verb agreement and tense consistency is a significant weakness that needs to be addressed through focused practice.
