Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is inconsistent. While you identify the trends for the Film club and Table tennis, the description of the other activities is vague and lacks sufficient detail. For instance, stating that Martial arts 'fluctuated' without providing specific data points for the intermediate years makes the summary incomplete. Furthermore, there is a significant error in the data interpretation where you mention '65%' for the Film club; the graph shows absolute numbers, not percentages. To improve, ensure you accurately report the units provided in the prompt and provide a more balanced overview of all categories shown in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'Next year 2005 and 2010 in it was declined' are grammatically disjointed and hinder the flow of information. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Amateur dramatics it stood about 27'. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile') and ensure that each sentence logically connects to the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic verbs like 'stood' or 'reached'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'The given glance illustrates' (which is not a standard academic opening) and 'it is stabled'. The misuse of '65%' instead of the raw number indicates a lack of precision in reporting data. To improve, you should incorporate a more varied range of vocabulary related to trends, such as 'remained stable', 'experienced a sharp decline', or 'witnessed a gradual increase', and ensure you use the correct terminology for the data provided.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Film club had highest number', 'Martial arts it were fluctuated') and incorrect preposition usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'While number of participants for Table tennis at stood about 18 in 2000 and 2020 in reached around 51'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles (a/the) are used correctly before nouns.
