The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The line graph shows the number of participants in five activities at a social centre in Melbourne, Australia, from 2000 to 2020.

Overall, the film club was the most popular activity throughout the period, while table tennis had the biggest increase. In contrast, amateur dramatics became less popular.

In 2000, about 64 people joined the film club. This figure fell slightly to 60 in 2010, before rising to around 66 in 2020. Martial arts had approximately 36 participants in 2000 and decreased to 32 in 2005. It then increased to 38 in 2010 and finished at about 36.

Table tennis rose from 16 participants in 2000 to 20 in 2005 and 2010. After that, it increased sharply, reaching 35 in 2015 and 54 in 2020. Amateur dramatics increased slightly from 26 to 28 between 2000 and 2005, but then fell to only 6 in 2020. Finally, musical performances started at zero and increased to around 18 participants by 2020.
