Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the overall trends and specific data points. You successfully identified the most popular activity and the sharp decline in amateur dramatics. However, the analysis is slightly uneven; while you provide specific figures for the film club and table tennis, the description of martial arts is vague, stating the 'value remained unchanged' without providing the actual data point. To reach a higher band, ensure that all categories mentioned are supported by specific data from the graph, and avoid generalizations like 'value remained unchanged' when the graph provides clear numerical information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall,' 'In addition,' and 'However' to link ideas. However, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is slightly abrupt. Additionally, the paragraphing could be improved; the second body paragraph is quite dense and mixes different categories (martial arts, musical performances, and amateur dramatics) without clear sub-grouping. Using more varied cohesive devices and ensuring each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable,' and 'sharp decline' appropriately. There are some minor issues with word choice and phrasing, such as 'looking at the detail' and 'from 2005 to onwards,' which sound slightly unnatural. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher band scores. Focus on using more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' to avoid repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Musical performances had no participants in first five years' (missing article) and 'Regarding, martial arts fluctuated' (incorrect punctuation). There are also minor tense inconsistencies when describing past trends. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for articles, prepositions, and punctuation to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
