Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify trends for several activities, the description of the data is occasionally inaccurate or lacks precision. For example, you mention that musical performances 'plummeted considerably' after 2005, but the graph shows a more complex pattern. Additionally, the overview is slightly inaccurate, as you state musical performance showed a 'significant rise' when the data indicates it started later and fluctuated. To improve, ensure you provide more precise data points to support your observations and focus on making clear comparisons between the different categories rather than just listing trends for each one individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is sometimes hindered by mechanical transitions. Phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'In 2000' are used, but the connection between sentences is often repetitive. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as when you refer to 'this line graph' without a smooth introduction. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices to link your ideas more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus, rather than jumping between different activities within the same paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations,' 'substantially,' and 'plummeted.' However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For instance, 'illustrates about' is incorrect; 'illustrates' should be followed directly by the object. Similarly, 'with passage of the time' is slightly unnatural. You also repeat the word 'participants' frequently. To improve, try to use synonyms or rephrase sentences to avoid repetition and focus on using more precise academic collocations to describe trends, such as 'a downward trajectory' or 'a period of stability.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'Musical performances was started' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'it become static' should be 'it became static' to maintain consistent past tense. There are also minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'In 2000, The table tennis...' where the capitalization of 'The' is unnecessary. To improve, focus on maintaining consistent tense throughout the report and proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
