Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, but there are significant issues with data accuracy and interpretation. You frequently misinterpret the units (e.g., referring to '65 activities' or '16 million jobs' when the graph likely represents percentages or participant numbers). The overview is present but lacks clarity due to grammatical errors. While you attempt to compare the activities, the confusion regarding the data points makes it difficult to follow the trends accurately. To improve, ensure you carefully read the axes and labels of the graph before writing, and focus on reporting the most significant trends rather than listing every data point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical errors. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In contrast' and 'By contrast', but they are sometimes applied incorrectly or in a repetitive manner. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it hard to track which activity you are discussing. To improve, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'flim' for 'film', 'soical' for 'social', 'nocitely' for 'noticeably') and incorrect word choices (e.g., 'material arts' instead of 'martial arts', 'involue' instead of 'involved'). These errors occasionally impede communication, as the reader has to guess your intended meaning. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary related to describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a sharp decline', and ensure you use them in the correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('musical performances an overall decline'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are often simple or fragmented, and there is a lack of complex sentence control. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the persistent errors require the reader to exert effort. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
