Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You have successfully identified the main features and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the stability of the film club versus the growth in table tennis. However, the report is somewhat descriptive, listing data points for each category sequentially rather than grouping them more analytically to highlight significant trends or relationships. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview clearly synthesises the most striking differences or patterns rather than just summarizing each line individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary overview. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different activities. Cohesive devices such as 'thereafter', 'moving further', and 'overall' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the description of amateur dramatics and musical performances is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking phrases would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information clearly. Phrases like 'fluctuating trend', 'steady growth', and 'substantial growth' are used effectively. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'the musical performances were started', which is slightly unnatural; 'musical performances began' would be better. You also repeat 'number of participants' frequently, which limits the lexical variety. Using synonyms like 'attendance figures', 'the count', or 'the number of people involved' would improve the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While most sentences are clear, there are some grammatical errors, such as 'a slight increase in participants were observed' (should be 'was observed') and 'the participants remained the same 20' (should be 'remained at 20'). Additionally, 'the musical performances were started' is a passive construction that is not necessary here. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the punctuation is generally accurate. Increasing the use of more complex, error-free structures would help raise your score.
