Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all five activities and provides a general overview. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and occasionally inaccurate. For example, stating that the film club participants were 'almost same' is vague, and the description of the martial arts activity as a 'zigzag' is informal and lacks precision. While the main features are identified, the lack of clear, accurate data points and the tendency to group information loosely prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure that specific figures are cited accurately and that trends are described using precise terminology rather than informal descriptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, which provides a basic logical structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward use of 'Although' at the start of the final sentence. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly within the second paragraph where multiple activities are crammed into a single, run-on sentence. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence has a clear focus would significantly enhance the flow and readability of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'participants' and 'activities'. There are several instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'rise and down zigzag' and 'towards', which do not fit the academic context. The range is insufficient to convey the data with the necessary precision required for Task 1. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of verbs and nouns related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a significant increase', and avoid informal phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The line graph illustrate') and article usage (e.g., 'in the period 2000'). Sentence structures are often repetitive or poorly constructed, such as the run-on sentence in the second paragraph. While there is an attempt at complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of control over punctuation and syntax. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be a beneficial first step.
