Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you identified the main trends, the analysis is incomplete. You missed describing the 'Amateur dramatics' trend in detail and failed to provide a comprehensive comparison of all categories. The data points mentioned are sometimes inaccurate (e.g., mentioning 2025 when the graph ends in 2020). To improve, ensure you cover all categories shown in the graph and provide a more thorough summary of the data points, ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and somewhat mechanical. Transitions between sentences are sparse, making the flow feel a bit disjointed. For example, the jump between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To reach a higher band, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Subsequently') to connect your ideas more logically and improve the overall progression of your report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'participating,' 'dramatically decreased,' and 'remained the same.' However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'incereased,' and some word choice issues, such as 'end up at' and 'in the start of.' The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and ensure you proofread for spelling errors to avoid distracting the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'where as' (should be 'whereas'), 'end up' (tense inconsistency), and 'There was no participant' (should be plural 'participants'). Additionally, punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses will help improve your accuracy significantly.
