Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all five activities and provides a general overview, which is a positive step. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and lacks precision. For example, stating that film club numbers were 'almost same' is vague, and the description of amateur dramatics is confusingly phrased. While the main features are identified, the lack of clear comparative language and the inaccurate reporting of some data points (e.g., 'no participants in musical performances in the period 2000 and towards') prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure that data points are clearly linked to specific years and use more precise comparative structures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the flow of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of effective cohesive devices. Transitions such as 'Moreover' and 'Although' are used, but they do not always logically connect the sentences. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the data. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence clearly relates to the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'participants', 'period', and 'activity'. There are instances of awkward word choices, such as 'in the period 2000 and towards' and 'finished around 55 participants'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To reach a higher score, you should incorporate more varied reporting verbs and nouns related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decline'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect preposition usage ('in the period 2000'), subject-verb agreement errors ('there was no participants'), and awkward sentence construction ('participants in film club activity almost same were the period 2000 to 2020'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring correct verb tenses when describing past trends will help improve accuracy.
