Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for the different activities. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that Table tennis increased in 2025, which is outside the provided timeframe of 2000–2020. Additionally, the description of the Film club as remaining the same throughout the period is not entirely accurate, as the graph shows fluctuations. While you have attempted to select and report main features, the lack of precision in data interpretation and the inclusion of incorrect dates (2025) hinder the overall task achievement. To improve, ensure you carefully read the axes and data points before writing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. There is a clear progression of ideas, and you use some cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'while', and 'in addition'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the transition between the description of Table tennis and Martial arts. The paragraphing is sufficient, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied linking words to connect the trends more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe trends using terms like 'dramatically decreased', 'fluctuated', and 'rose up'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'no participant of musical performances' (should be 'no participants in musical performances') and 'at the start of 2000'. You rely on some repetitive phrasing. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe data trends, such as 'remained stable', 'experienced a decline', or 'reached a plateau'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'it remained the same' (starting with a lowercase 'i'), 'there was no participant of musical performances', and 'Martial art number of participants were'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not generally impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent capitalization. Additionally, try to vary your sentence structure further by using more complex clauses to describe the relationships between the different data sets.
