Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the main trends. You successfully identified the most popular activity (film club) and the most significant growth (table tennis). However, the description of amateur dramatics is incomplete; you mention it fell from 25 in 2000 but fail to provide the final figure for 2020, which is necessary for a complete summary. Additionally, the overview paragraph is well-structured and highlights the key comparisons effectively. To improve, ensure that all data points mentioned in the graph are fully described with their start and end values to provide a comprehensive summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific activity or group of activities. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'By contrast' to guide the reader. However, there are some mechanical errors in punctuation and spacing, such as 'However,, this figure' and '2010,before'. Additionally, the transition between the final two sentences in the fourth paragraph is slightly awkward due to the misuse of 'but' after 'While'. Improving the precision of your punctuation and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'gradually', 'sharply', and 'declined considerably'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'amaetur dramatics' and 'performences', which slightly detract from the professional tone. While you successfully use descriptive language to convey trends, the range is somewhat limited to standard reporting verbs. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increased' or 'decreased' and ensure meticulous proofreading to eliminate minor spelling slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'who participants in' (should be 'who participated in') and 'for the year 2000 to 2020' (should be 'from 2000 to 2020'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas and periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
