Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends and successfully selected key data points to support your summary. The comparison between activities is well-handled, particularly the contrast between the growth of table tennis and the decline of amateur dramatics. The data is accurate and clearly presented, meeting the requirements for a Band 8 performance by covering all key features well with no significant omissions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: the introduction, the overview, and the detailed body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'By contrast', and 'while' effectively to link ideas and guide the reader. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the information flows smoothly throughout the text. The use of referencing is clear, and the structure supports the overall summary well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'experienced the most significant growth', 'declined considerably', and 'upward trend' are used accurately and appropriately for an academic report. There is a good level of flexibility in your word choice, and you avoid repetition. While the vocabulary is accurate and fits the context well, it remains functional rather than highly sophisticated, which is consistent with a strong Band 7 performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response exhibits a good variety of complex structures, such as the use of subordinate clauses ('while table tennis experienced...', 'after being introduced in 2005'). The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and tense usage is consistent. You successfully manage to integrate data points into complex sentences without losing clarity. The grammatical accuracy is high, and the few structures used are handled with confidence, justifying a Band 8 score.
