Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including trends and comparisons. You successfully identified the most popular activity (Film club) and the one with the most growth (Table tennis). However, the overview is slightly thin; while it mentions the main trends, it could be more precise regarding the overall period. The data reporting is generally accurate, though some figures are approximated without clear reference to the graph's units. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are explicitly linked to the data points provided and avoid minor inaccuracies in describing the start and end points of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from general trends to specific data points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'In 2000', and 'Although', which help the flow. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the description of Table tennis and Musical performances is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'substantial growth', 'fluctuations', and 'drastically'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'hoe much participants interested' (should be 'how many participants were interested') and 'none was interested' (should be 'there was no interest'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the phrasing is occasionally awkward. To improve, focus on collocations related to data description, such as 'witnessed a steady increase' or 'reached a peak of'. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points clearly despite these minor slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Film club remained the most interested activity' (should be 'most popular activity') and 'reached at 58' (should be 'reached 58'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors and practice using more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or participle phrases, to describe the trends more accurately.
