Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the film club's dominance and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precise data points. For instance, mentioning that table tennis 'rocketed' in 2010 is a good observation, but the lack of specific figures makes the report less informative. The description of musical performances is slightly inaccurate, as the graph shows data starting from 2005 rather than 'no sign till 2005'. To improve, ensure you include specific numbers from the axes to support your comparisons and maintain a more objective tone throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into four paragraphs, which is a good structure for a report. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and a final overview. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'As wee see' and 'Finally, the individuals taking part in...'. Some transitions between sentences feel repetitive, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between the different activities would help the flow of the text significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for higher bands. There is frequent repetition of phrases like 'number of individuals participating in', which makes the writing feel monotonous. There are also some errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'amature' (amateur) and 'enhance' (which is used incorrectly here to mean 'increase'). To reach a higher band, you should use a wider range of synonyms for 'increase' or 'decrease' and avoid repeating the same sentence structures. Focus on using more precise terminology related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'data about number of individuals' (missing articles), 'two decades of period' (redundant phrasing), and 'has not any such change' (incorrect verb usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement throughout. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses.
