Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for the five activities. You successfully identified the most popular activity (film club) and noted the significant growth of the table tennis club. However, the overview is somewhat weak; while you mention the film club and martial arts, you miss the opportunity to highlight the overall trend of growth across most activities. Additionally, some data points are slightly inaccurate or vague, such as describing the musical performances as having 'no members' initially when the graph shows a clear starting point. To improve, ensure your overview synthesizes the main trends rather than just listing individual activity details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, you frequently start sentences with 'It' or 'The membership of'. There is a lack of varied linking words to connect ideas within and between sentences. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is a bit abrupt. Using a wider range of cohesive devices, such as 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently', would improve the flow and logical connection of your points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, such as 'significant growth', 'fluctuating', and 'popular'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'linegraph', 'perticipating', 'summery', 'perticular', and 'flim'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. Furthermore, your word choice is sometimes imprecise, such as saying 'most unpopular activity' instead of 'least popular'. To reach a higher band, focus on accurate spelling and using more sophisticated collocations to describe trends, such as 'experienced a steady decline' or 'witnessed a sharp increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'There are total 5 activities' (missing article), 'didn't had and members' (incorrect verb tense and article usage), and 'it's membership' (incorrect use of apostrophe). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While these errors rarely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly verb tenses when describing past data and the correct use of articles with nouns.
