Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively covers all requirements of the task. You have identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. The selection of key features is accurate, such as highlighting the growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. Comparisons are made appropriately throughout the report. The data is presented clearly, and the information is well-supported by the figures provided in the graph. You have successfully summarized the information without unnecessary detail, meeting the requirements for a Band 7 or higher in this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group the data effectively. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you use cohesive devices such as 'By contrast,' 'However,' and 'before rising to' to link information. The paragraphing is logical, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct set of trends. The flow of information is easy to follow, and the use of referencing is clear throughout the text, which is characteristic of a well-structured response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information precisely. Phrases like 'experienced a sharp decline,' 'fluctuated,' and 'increased gradually' are used accurately to describe trends. While the vocabulary is functional and appropriate for an IELTS Task 1 report, it lacks a wider range of less common lexical items that would push the score into the 8.0+ range. However, there are no errors in word choice or collocation, and the language used is natural and fits the context of a data summary well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response displays a good variety of sentence structures, including both simple and complex sentences. Your control over grammar is strong, with no significant errors that impede communication. You use a mix of temporal markers and comparative structures effectively. The punctuation is accurate, and the verb tenses are consistently used to describe past and ongoing trends. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and the overall grammatical control is solid, supporting a high band score for this criterion.
