Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You successfully identified the most popular activity (film club) and highlighted the significant growth in table tennis. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the main trends. However, the report could be improved by ensuring data points are consistently accurate; for example, you mentioned Amateur dramatics was 26 in 2020, but the graph shows a much lower figure, and there is a typo in the year reference. Overall, the information is well-selected and the main trends are clearly communicated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group the activities effectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'By contrast' and 'However' to signal shifts in the data, which helps the reader follow the comparisons. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different categories. To reach a higher band, ensure that referencing is always precise and that the flow between sentences remains smooth, as some transitions feel slightly mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'declined steadily', and 'increased considerably'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'perfomrnces' and 'onl6', which slightly detract from the professional tone. While you use sufficient vocabulary to convey the trends, incorporating more varied synonyms for 'increased' or 'decreased' would enhance the lexical variety. The vocabulary is generally appropriate for an academic report, but more precision in word choice would elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as '64 people participants in' (should be '64 people participated in') and 'The figure fell around 58' (missing 'to'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and typographical errors throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring prepositions are used correctly with numerical data will help improve your accuracy.
