Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the overall trends and specific data points. You successfully identified the most popular activity (Film club) and the declining trend (Amateur dramatics). However, the description of the data is sometimes imprecise; for example, stating the Amateur dramatics decline was 'from around 20 to 30' is confusing as the graph shows a single starting point. Additionally, the comparison between Table tennis and Martial arts is clear, but the report would benefit from more precise data referencing to ensure the reader can follow the trends accurately. Overall, the main features are highlighted, but the clarity of the data reporting could be improved.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Meanwhile' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by repetitive phrasing, such as 'throughout period of time', which appears multiple times. The referencing is sometimes slightly mechanical, and the transition between sentences could be smoother to create a more natural progression of information. While the structure is clear, the use of cohesive devices is not always flexible or sophisticated enough for a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuating', 'gradual downfall', and 'consistent'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'performers participate into' (should be 'participants in') and 'learners of Amateur dramatics' (the graph refers to participants, not necessarily learners). The repetition of 'students' and 'participants' throughout the text limits the range. To improve, focus on using more varied synonyms and ensuring that collocations are natural in an academic context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'participants shows', 'learners... register', 'student... stays') and article usage (e.g., 'the participant of the Table tennis'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. You attempt to use complex structures, but they often contain inaccuracies. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
