Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered all five categories and made relevant comparisons, such as noting when one activity surpassed another. However, the report is slightly hindered by some inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, you mention that the amateur dramatics class witnessed a downward trend throughout the period, yet the data shows it rose initially. Additionally, the description of the musical performance category is a bit confusing regarding the timeline. To reach a higher band, ensure that your summary of trends is strictly supported by the data points provided in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information effectively. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Similarly', 'Meanwhile', and 'Finally' to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the initial trends from the later developments. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, although the transition between the second and third body paragraphs could be slightly more refined to better connect the chronological shifts in the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe trends, using terms like 'upward trend', 'stabilized', 'witnessed a downward trend', and 'rose sharply'. This allows for some flexibility and precision in your reporting. There are no significant spelling errors, and the word choice is generally appropriate for an academic report. To improve, you could incorporate more sophisticated collocations or varied synonyms for 'increased' and 'decreased' to avoid repetition and demonstrate a wider lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free, which ensures that the information is conveyed without difficulty. There is good control over punctuation and tense usage, particularly when describing past events. While your grammar is generally accurate, there are occasional minor slips in phrasing. Overall, the grammatical control is strong enough to support the clear communication of the data, and the variety of structures used is sufficient for this task.
