Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. You have attempted to report on the trends for film club, musical performances, amateur dramas, table tennis, and martial arts, but the lack of a concluding summary and the unfinished nature of the text prevent a full development of the task. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the main trends and complete all sentences to ensure the information is fully communicated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas are not logically sequenced, and the abrupt ending disrupts the flow of information. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However' and 'Nevertheless', but they are often used incorrectly or repetitively, making the progression feel mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the lack of a cohesive conclusion makes the overall arrangement feel disjointed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic verbs like 'seen' or 'remained' and phrases like 'great decline' or 'great acceptance'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'amature dramas' (spelling error: amateur) and 'got a great acceptance'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant downturn'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs will help you convey information more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with article usage ('the number', 'at a social center'), subject-verb agreement ('some seen decline'), and tense consistency. Sentence structures are generally simple, and the attempt at complex structures often results in errors, such as 'While amature dramas had seen a great decline... and there are almost 5 participants'. Punctuation is also inconsistent. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms will help improve your accuracy.
