Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the trends. You successfully identified the main features, such as the upward trends and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For example, you stated that amateur participation fell to 20 in 2010, but the graph shows a different figure. Additionally, the description of the musical category is slightly confusing regarding the timeline. To improve, ensure that the data points cited align precisely with the graph to avoid misinterpretation of the information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'In 2015', and 'Conversely' to guide the reader. However, the progression of ideas within the body paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the shifts between categories. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'stabilized', 'plateaued', and 'surpassed'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'amateurs' used to refer to the 'amateur dramatics' category, which is slightly imprecise. You also have a few awkward phrasings like 'upward trajectoy' (spelling error) and 'table witnessed a plateaued trend'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary is consistently accurate throughout the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'the table witnessed a plateaued trend' (referring to the category as a table) and 'Film club individuals declined' (should be 'participation in the Film Club'). Punctuation is generally fine, but there are occasional slips in sentence construction that slightly affect clarity. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed with precision.
