Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response effectively covers the main features of the graph, including the overall trends and specific data points for the various activities. You have successfully identified the most popular activity (Film club), the significant growth of table tennis, and the decline of amateur dramatics. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the trends. However, to reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurate; for instance, you mentioned the Film club participants were 64 in 2000 and 2010, but the graph shows a slight dip in 2010. Overall, the task is well-addressed with relevant comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by activity. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'after this', and 'followed by', which help the flow of the text. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall clarity of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'significant growth', 'slight fluctuations', and 'major decline'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'participated in different activities' (should be 'participation in') and 'peroid' (spelling). You also use 'regain the same number' which is slightly awkward. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise academic collocations would elevate the response to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'numbers of people participated' (should be 'number of people participating') and 'the number of participants were same' (should be 'was the same'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
