Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends, such as the film club's consistent popularity and the significant growth of table tennis. The key features are well-selected, and the data is accurately reported with relevant comparisons. You successfully identified the start and end points and highlighted the contrasting trajectories of the activities, such as the decline in amateur dramatics versus the emergence of musical performances. The information is logically presented, and the summary is comprehensive, meeting all requirements for a high-band response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is well-organized with a clear logical progression. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: the introduction, the overview, and two body paragraphs detailing the data. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'By contrast', and 'Meanwhile' are used effectively to link ideas and contrast trends. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the flow of information is smooth, allowing the reader to follow the trends easily. There is no evidence of mechanical or repetitive use of linking words, and the structure supports the clear communication of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a data description task. Phrases such as 'experienced the most significant growth', 'declined considerably', and 'rose sharply' show a good command of descriptive language. The vocabulary is precise and used accurately throughout the text. While the range is sufficient and effective, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or varied synonyms for 'participants' or 'attendance' could elevate the response further. However, the current usage is natural and error-free, contributing to a clear and professional tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response displays a high level of grammatical accuracy. You have used a variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences with subordinate clauses (e.g., 'while table tennis experienced the most significant growth'). Punctuation is used correctly, and there are no noticeable errors in tense or subject-verb agreement. The majority of sentences are error-free, and the control over complex structures is consistent. The writing is fluent and precise, which is characteristic of a high-band performance. No significant grammatical weaknesses were identified.
