Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response provides a summary of the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for the five activities. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision in reporting data. For instance, while you mention 'rapid growth' for table tennis, you do not provide specific figures to support this, and the description of the musical performances is slightly inaccurate regarding the starting point. To improve, ensure you include specific data points (e.g., 'starting at 10 and rising to 50') to substantiate your claims. The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated to highlight the most significant trends across the 20-year period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure for a Task 1 report. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and somewhat mechanical. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, and there is a lack of variety in linking words. For example, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'it' when referring back to previous subjects. Improving the flow by using a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'in contrast', 'subsequently', 'meanwhile') would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate to convey the main points, but there are several spelling errors ('Flim' instead of 'Film', 'maritial' instead of 'martial', 'ameteur' instead of 'amateur') and some awkward phrasing. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors like 'going steadily' or 'fall down'. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained constant', or 'experienced a sharp decline'. The current level of lexical control is sufficient for communication but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('musical performances kept on increasing', 'table tennis shows the rapid growth') and article usage. Some sentences are also poorly constructed, such as 'Flim club stays the highest among all since beginning to the end.' These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing past data and pay closer attention to basic sentence construction and punctuation. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help raise your score.
