Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is inconsistent. While you identify the highest and lowest activities, the description of trends is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating that Martial arts had an 'average' trend is vague, and the description of the film club's fluctuations is difficult to follow. You have attempted to select key data points, but the lack of clarity in reporting these figures prevents a full overview. To improve, focus on grouping data logically (e.g., activities that increased vs. those that decreased) and ensure that the data points cited are accurate and clearly linked to the years provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as starting sentences with 'Whereas,' or 'After that,' which creates a disjointed flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between different activities. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Subsequently,' 'Furthermore') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping activities by their overall trend rather than listing them activity by activity.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to describe the data precisely. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'Armature dramatics' (Amateur dramatics), 'had lie' (lay at), and 'marginally peak' (peaked). These errors occasionally cause confusion. While you attempt to use some descriptive terms like 'fluctuate' or 'decline,' the overall range is insufficient for a higher band. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'a significant increase,' 'remained steady,' or 'reached a peak of.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The graph illustrate'), tense usage (e.g., 'It was decline'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'Which was minimum in graph'). The use of simple sentence structures is predominant, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
