Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is poorly constructed and lacks clarity. The description of the martial arts trend as 'fluctuated' is vague, and the data points for the film club are mentioned, but the overall comparison is weak. The report lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, and some data points are inaccurate or poorly described, such as the claim that martial arts fluctuated around 40 when the graph shows a more complex pattern. The response addresses the task but lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'It was also observed that', but they are often mechanical or misused. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas between sentences is disjointed. The overview paragraph is particularly weak, failing to provide a cohesive summary of the data, which makes the overall structure feel somewhat fragmented.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'number of participants' and 'activity'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'enrollers was decline' and 'the no of participants who was fluctuate'. These errors occasionally make the text difficult to follow. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate precision, and the student struggles to use academic language appropriate for a data summary task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the no of participants who was fluctuate', 'participants was remained') and tense usage. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used often contain errors in punctuation and article usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction significantly impacts the quality of the writing.
