Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the film club's consistent popularity and the dramatic growth in table tennis participation. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the key features. You have also made relevant comparisons, such as contrasting the growth of table tennis with the decline of amateur dramatics. The data is accurately reported, and the inclusion of specific figures supports your points well. To reach a higher band, ensure that the most significant trends are highlighted even more prominently in the overview.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from the introduction and overview to specific details about the activities. You have used a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'In contrast', 'By 2010', and 'By contrast', which help the reader follow the narrative. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different stages of the analysis. The flow between sentences is smooth, and there is no evidence of mechanical or repetitive linking. The structure is well-managed throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have demonstrated a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'dramatic growth', 'steady trajectory', and 'skyrocketed' appropriately. This shows an ability to use less common lexical items with awareness of style and collocation. The vocabulary is precise and contributes to the clarity of the report. There are no significant errors in word choice or spelling that impede communication. To improve further, you could incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for 'participants' or 'figures' to add variety, although the current range is already sufficient for a high band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response displays a good variety of complex structures, such as the use of participial phrases ('having some minor fluctuations') and subordinate clauses ('after which the figure skyrocketed'). The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over grammar and punctuation is strong. There are no major grammatical errors that cause confusion. The use of tense is consistent and appropriate for describing past trends and data. The writing is fluent and demonstrates a high level of accuracy, making it easy to read and understand.
